VSZ-20 VENTILATOR
Monterrey, Mexico, May 26th, 2020 - Ventilators have been in short supply during the coronavirus pandemic. In response to this need and to aid the fight against COVID-19, Metalsa along with companies from Grupo Monterrey (Proeza, Femsa, BOCAR, Cemex, Alfa, Xignux, Cydsa, Vitro, Frisa, Ternium, and Gruma) and other institutions, united forces to design and produce intensive care units (ICUs) ventilators for the treatment of patients with COVID-19.
Together with a multidisciplinary team formed by clinical and biomedical experts, engineers, and universities, Metalsa worked on a strategy to design, coordinate, and assembly a ventilator that meets authorities’ standards and attacks the current crisis' needs.
The ventilators' assembly will be carried out at one of Metalsa's manufacturing plants, located at Apodaca, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The plant conditioned space that complies with regulations indicated by the COFEPRIS (Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks).
Production will start in the first week of June, with 55 collaborators assembling 500 ventilators per week, which will be distributed along with the INSABI (Health Institute for Well-Being) to the most needed medical centers in Mexico.
There is a conviction that this effort will help to ease the shortage of ventilators and will also safeguard the lives of many people who might be infected with COVID-19 in Mexico.
